Hiking & Waterfalls @ Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve

This is the world's first Jaguar Preserve offering great hiking opportunities. Here the jungle is dense and both flora and fauna is abundant.

You will see birds and butterflies and maybe also some mammals like peccaries, deers, agoutis, gibnuts, anteaters, kinkajous, tapirs and if you are lucky, a jaguar!

In Cockscomb there is more than half a dozen hiking trails of different steepness and difficulty. Bring your swimwear as there are several waterfalls and natural pools on the trails. Another option is to rent an inner tube and in a lazy manner float down the river for an hour. And last but not least don't forget to check out the plane crash!

Zipline, Hiking & Waterfalls @ Mayflower Bocawina National Park

Hiking in Mayflower Bocawina is hiking in a lush subtropical rainforest thick with trees, orchids, ferns and abundant birdlife. Mayflower Bocawina National Park lies next to the remains of some unexcavated Mayan ruins.

At the park is also to be found Belize's longest zipline facility. You can combine a tour here with hiking in the morning and ziplining in the afternoon.
For serious hikers, hike to the steep Antelope trail. At the top there is a great view, and a natural pool to swim in by the cascading waterfall. A perfect spot for you to cool down before heading back.

Getting to Mayflower is nice & quick on a motorbike!

Hiking & Waterfalls @ Billy Barquedeir National Park

Right of the lower part of the Hummingbird Highway you will find this virtually undiscovered National Park. The waterfall plumbs into a perfectly shaped gorge with a natural swimming pool only 15 min hike from the highway.

As you walk along the river the jungle will wrap around you and the waterway. A couple of times you have to cross the river on some stepping stones which makes this a fun event. Apart from how gorgeous this fall is, it is easy to reach without too much physical effort, which makes this into a nice half-day event.

Zipline @ Mayan Sky Canopy Tours

A fun ride through orange orchids and forest leads you to Belize’s newest zipline. Enjoy the the thrill as you zip over the South Stann Creek River. This zipline has a very professional crew that offers a genuine and personal experience. In between some platsforms you will also have to walk on a hanging bridges.

If it is the right time of the year and you are lucky, you might see Scarlet Macaws feeding on the berries that grow in the area.

Great to combine with a ride to Placencia!

Waterfall @ Private Jungle Spot

Half way towards Placencia this waterfall is on private grounds but yet possible to visit. The fall offers few highlights that make this place very attractive for a visit. To start with, it has a platform where you may practice your jumping techniques! Secondly you can drive all the way to the falls without having to hike at all and thirdly there is a 100% natural fish pedicure offered for free by nature itself. The little fish that live in the pool under the waterfall will nibble away your dead skin on your feet for no extra charge.

It has a couple of nice picnic-tables right by the falls so if you want to bring a picnic it would be a scenic spot for a bite to eat. This adventure could be combined with a trip to Placencia or a visit at the Banana Farm or you could make it to a half day adventure on its own.

Ride right to the waterfall!

Cool down @ Inland Blue Hole National Park

Take a refreshing swim in the sapphire blue waters of the Inland Blue Hole, a sinkhole in a lush jungle setting fed by an underground river. There is virtually no hiking involved in order to reach this swim hole.

The park is so accessible that it can easily be combined with day tours to the Belize Zoo o St. Hermans Cave or as part of overnight day tours while heading to the West part of the country.
